I’ve been so busy with weddings lately I haven’t been able to blog very much. The Altared Visions site still has a lot of work (as does this one) and often takes priority. I just shot my last wedding until New Year’s Eve this past weekend in Maryland complete with Washington DC engagement shots and I’m really excited to catch up on edits and have some serious time to blog and do some personal work.

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been shooting!! So here are some shots from my autumnal shenanigans this year.

There was King Richard’s Faire. Full set here.

Things have been kinda crazy around here and I do have some kid portraits coming up, but for now here is my favorite from last night’s “Trashion” show at UMASS. I had to shoot it for The Torch, and unfortunately couldn’t stay too long but once again the Nifty Fifty really worked it and I got some good shots.

This is my favorite, I love this girl (how gorgeous is she?) and her outfit and the red and the sharpiness! (It’s a word now!)

Shot @ 2.8 (with my 50mm 1.8) 1/200 at ISO1600

FINALLY getting caught up on photos. I figure I better use this wedding-free month and this weekend’s photo shoots as motivation before I was even further behind on personal work!

I didn’t get to shoot nearly as much as I’d have liked again this year because without an official photopass (something I hope to get next year) the security guards (who are mostly not Wampanoag and have no idea what dances are ok to shoot and what dances are off limits) were harassing me every time my camera touched my face. I knew which dances were OK and could have shot anyway but I wasn’t in a debating mood, nor did I want to run and get my cousins to tell off these guys every 10 minutes. Oh well.

I did shoot the Goomba’s dance without harassment though. They were tough because their regalia is SO TALL it was hard to get a shot without background distraction AND get all of them in the frame! The Goomba’s, from what I remember being told, are Wampanoag natives that migrated to Bermuda. If anyone knows more, I’d love the info…google didn’t help much. Cousins that may be reading this?

These guys were amazing to watch and all the little ones were adorable.

Fortunately the security couldn’t tell me not to shoot my family so I did lots of that!

This was Aiden’s first pow-wow, too. Daddy took him for a spin around the dance circle.

Next year I’ll get that pass if it kills me, although I can tell you if you’ve never been to a Pow Wow, no photos will do it justice! Chances are you have a native tribe nearby, check it out!
